What lives in Jesus’ heart?

June is the month of the Sacred Heart and its rich iconography expresses the popularity of this feast. The Church celebrates the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a movable feast, on the Friday following the solemnity of Corpus Domini (which this year is 11th June) and it is linked with the celebration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the following Saturday.

The popular devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus developed in Middle Ages thanks to the extraordinary figures of the nuns Mechtilde of Magdebourg (1207-1282), Mechtilde of Hackeborn (1241-1299), Gertrud of Helfa (1256-1302) called the “theologian of the Sacred Heart” and thanks to the Mendicant Franciscan and Dominican orders who promoted its diffusion...
