The Cross is the way which leads from earth to heaven

“You placed the salvation of the human race upon the wood of the cross, so that where death arose, there life might rise again; and the one who conquered on a tree, might also be conquered on a tree through Christ our Lord”. These words of the entrance antiphon for the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross invite us to meditate about the profound meaning of this feast. This celebration invites us to gaze upon the cross, the horrible instrument of execution where Jesus suffered and died to redeem the world and to contemplate the amazing mystery of Christ’ sacrifice who conquered death through his death; this barbaric instrument of torture has been transformed into a redemptive and divine tree of life because Jesus has been faithful to his mission until the end; about that John writes: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life” (3, 16-17).
