Lifting your eyes to heaven with hope

There is evil in the world, too much evil. This is a hard trial for those who believe in a merciful God. We could be tempted to think that our world has no intrinsic meaning. This was the tragic conclusion of the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860). According to this philosopher, what we consider order and harmony in the world is only illusion. The order of the civil and political society is only the fragile wrapping of our egoism and instincts ready to explode with terrible consequences when the coercive power is absent. History is made up of conflicts and wars among men and the reason is only a way to justify with the logic the blind egoism of mankind. The will to live is an irrational blind impulse without knowledge and without an answer causing an endless insatiable striving in human existence...
