Israel’s wait is fulfilled

"Dear brothers forty days after Christmas the Church celebrates the day of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, God accepts this ceremony but in reality he is falling in with his people who are awaiting him in faith”. With these introductory words before the procession of Candlemas we begin the celebration of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. In the book of Exodus we read: “The Lord spoke to Moses and said, ‘Consecrate to me every first-born that opens the womb among the Israelites, both of man and beast, for it belongs to me’ ” (Exodus 13,1-2). Mary and Joseph fulfilled the requirement of the Law.
