With the ticket in your pocket

My parish priest told a story that he doesn’t know where it comes from, but it seems to be on the internet. It is about a father who was accustomed to accompany his son to stay with his grandmother in the mountains every year during the summer holidays, and then going back home the next day. One day, the child asked his parents if he could go to his grandmother’s house on his own, because he felt he was old enough. After a brief discussion his parents agreed. They went with him to the train station and, while they were waiting for the train to leave, gave him lots of advice. Their son replied a little impatiently: “I know, you’ve told me a thousand times!”. Just as the train was about to leave, his father said quietly into his ear, “If you feel sick or unsafe, this is for yo” and put something in his pocket. Sitting alone on the train for the first time without his parents, he started to enjoy the view from the window.
