The deer desires heaven

fr. Luciano Bertazzo

Have you ever heard the expression “to play the goat”? It means to behave comically or playfully, as well as to fool around. In fact, while in the imagination both the sheep and the lamb symbolize gentleness and sweetness, the goat seems to refer to coltishness, goofiness. Ethologists would have something to say, since the latest research seems to suggest that the goat is even able to compete with the dog for intelligence and affection towards its owner. Perhaps this is why it is an animal present in many fairy tales, especially in its early stages of life, with the typical liveliness of every puppy. Let’s leave to the ethologists the verification, let’s see, instead, what friar Antonio says about this animal so present in the Bible.
