Powerful friends to invoke for our journey

Elide Siviero

I’ve just finished reading a book about the life and martyrdom of Blessed Miguel and Zbigniev, two Polish Franciscan friars who died young in Peru on 9 August 1991, killed by Sendero Luminoso. They had gone there to spread the Gospel and they were killed because, according to this terrorist group, their charity work and the Bible were stopping the people from joining the revolution. Zbigniev was 33 and Miguel was not even 31 (photo above). They were beatified on 5 December 2015. Their story of service, praise, and selflessness to the point of giving their lives really moved me.
