Influencers of the faith

In recent years, young people have urged us to explore a new mission field: the digital realm. This involves discovering and making the best use of the internet’s resources. Carlo Acutis, a great computer enthusiast whom we have mentioned before, is a prime example of this. We now wish to focus on the term ‘influencer’, which has become very fashionable in recent years. It refers to a person who has the ability to influence the behaviour of their admirers and followers. While the media is undoubtedly the prime arena for exerting such influence today, Christianity has always had charismatic men and women in its ranks whose lives can inspire others and foster radical existential transformations. Consider the saints, for example, who are true influencers of the faith and often inspire others to follow them on the path to holiness. Without delving too far into history, there are countless names that could be mentioned. We can look to the 20th century and the example of Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916).
