A land of mission

The mobile phone in our pocket? The computer we work on? The televisions connected to the Internet that show us videos ‘made to measure’ for us? They are no longer tools that we use to communicate, inform ourselves or pass the time, but real places with their own culture, own rules and own logic of power. A new land that intertwines and transforms the earth we live on every day. A land that needs to receive the proclamation of the Gospel. In short, a land of mission. For all these reasons, the Synod of Bishops in its October 2023 session and in its October 2024 session devoted a great deal of space in its conclusions to the theme of evangelization, not so much through digital media (the instrumental logic), but in a world completely transformed by the spread of digital culture: as the Synod Fathers and Mothers wrote, “the digital culture has profoundly changed the perception of space and time, influencing daily activities, communication and interpersonal relationships, including faith”.
