Virtues adorn the righteous

fr. Luciano Bertazzo

We would have liked to close the December issue with a Christmas flavour, but we have already had the opportunity to present previously all those animals that surround the Child Jesus in the crib: from the ox to the donkey, to the sheep. However, this year we close in style presenting the peacock.

What animal more than this speaks to us of style and beauty! It is solemn, even to the point of being too impetuous: the twirling of the tail plumage in the male is truly impressive. A bird originating from the East, also known among the Romans who appreciated its beauty (and its flesh!), but still present in the appropriate spaces even today, admired for its attractiveness… a little less, for the stabbing screams that launches and that many interpret as a sign of imminent weather change.
