The Church: door of salvation

fr. Antonio Ramina

“Militant and triumphant”! Of course, this language is no longer familiar to us. And if by chance we remember it, perhaps thanks to the education we received from some good catechist when we were still children, we don’t like it anymore. And yet many times Saint Anthony speaks of the Church combining the two expressions that are out of fashion for us. “Militant” brings to mind attitudes of a fighter, of a militant; “triumphant” calls to mind solemn or exhibited poses that don’t arouse particular sympathy.

Something precious, however, underneath it all! These are in fact two terms that must be understood well, above all they must be placed on the lips of Saint Anthony putting us from his point of view, that of a man of faith who had a deeply communitarian and unitary vision of the faithful.
