The Jesuit Peter Claver (1581-1654) is far removed from us in time, yet his way of engaging with the history of his era remains deeply relevant. He refused to stand by helplessly in the face of the plague of slavery and took the burden upon himself. Today, that tragedy goes by different names, but it still exists.
