Eucharist: from the heart of Jesus

Fr. Chino Biscontin

With the ceremony of the Washing of the feet and the Last Supper, Holy Thursday invites us to comprehend the spiritual testament that Jesus left to his disciples. The Eucharist comes from the source of love of the heart of Jesus and this has a profound meaning.

There were three lacerating feelings in the heart of Jesus on that dramatic evening: the anguish for the imminent suffering and death and even more for what appeared to be the failure of his mission. Then he abandoned himself into the hands of the Father guided by an endless love and his unwavering devotion to the mission that the Father had entrusted him.

He cared for his disciples, he desired to help them cope with the imminent scandal that would soon have fallen upon them and he wanted to prepare them to continue his mission. Jesus wants to make the disciples understand the meaning of his death, not as it is interpreted from the point of view of the executioners, but from within his soul.
